The appropriation directions for higher education institutions for the 2020 fiscal year required Uppsala University to produce a plan for its work on gender mainstreaming.
The University's plan for gender mainstreaming is valid for three years, 2020-2022, and aims at sustainable gender equality and the development of ordinary processes. It is based on Uppsala University's mission, goals, and strategies, and sets out an overall focus for the university's work with gender mainstreaming.
The plan designates three action areas for the University's activities to become more gender-equal: the form and contents of the education, internal allocation of resources, recruitment, and skills supply. The task of concretising and implementing the action areas belongs at an operational level in the respective disciplinary domain, faculty, unit, or equivalent.
The EU programme "Horizon Europe" has introduced requirements for applications for funding to demonstrate that the higher education institution meets the four mandatory requirements: i) A university-wide document regarding work on gender equality, ii) Resources for implementing gender equality, iii) Monitoring and evaluation of gender equality work; and, iv) Training and awareness-raising actions on gender equality. Uppsala University shows how the requirements are fulfilled in the "Gender Mainstreaming Plan for 2020-2022" and its appendix “Horizon Europe”.
